SPI (Simulations Publications
SPI, or Simulations Publications Inc., was one of the most historically important and influential American wargame publishers of the 1970s, producing an extraordinary volume and variety of historical wargames that defined the genre for a generation. Founded by James Dunnigan, SPI pioneered the wargame magazine format and made hex-and-counter simulation gaming accessible to a broad audience. Their impact on game design methodology, historical education through gaming, and the hobby's infrastructure remains profound even decades after their closure.
